South China Sea Tsunami
On May 22, 1960 an earthquake measuring the strongest in recorded history, occurred off the coast of South Central Chile. Measuring 9.5 on the Richter scale, triggered a tsunami 30 feet high. Nearly fifteen minutes after the quake, the first tsunami-affected land, flooding more than 500 miles from the coast of Chile. With a combination of earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and damage, it is estimated that one out of every three homes in the quake zone have been lost. But the tsunami is still far from finished. The wave hit Hilo, Hawaii, 15 hours later, killing 61 people and wounding 282 others ill. Because of confusion over the warning sirens, people returned to their homes after the first wave, only to be arrested in 20-foot waves that followed was deafening.
22 hours after 9.5 quake, the tsunami radiated from the epicenter Chile and arrived in Japan. For hours, residents experienced by waves as high as 14 feet. After the destruction is complete, Japan 122 people lost their lives to the heavy water
